Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) was created in 1979 by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn as a program for the reduction of chronic pain and anxiety. Over the years, research has also demonstrated its positive impacts include: increased focus and awareness; enhanced well-being; improved emotional regulation; better listening and communication; and of course, stress and pain reduction.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week course designed to immerse you in your own experience and get to know your life from the inside out. It begins with learning how to pay attention, which is something not taught in schools or even in most homes.

We get acquainted with our thoughts, bodily sensations, and emotions, and learn how to work with them rather than allowing them to dominate our experience. We learn how to make skillful decisions in difficult moments; how to have tough, meaningful conversations; and what to do when emotional or physical discomfort begins to arise. We are so used to the patterns of thought and action that we have developed that we don’t even see them.

This course, which includes a 7.5 hour day of silence on a weekend day between weeks 6 and 7, provides the structure and personal practice necessary to learn this crucial life skill. MBSR has been researched for 40 years, with outcomes including: increased focus and awareness; enhanced well-being; improved emotional regulation; better listening and communication; increase in empathy; and of course, stress and pain reduction.

This is a trauma-sensitive course, available only to those over 18.

Live Sessions every Tuesday for 8 weeks, beginning August 18, from 6-8 or 8:30pm, Eastern. Retreat on September 26, from 10am-5:30pm, Eastern

Ability to use Zoom app, including microphone and webcam. Desktop, tablet, or phone are all fine, although the phone can be a bit limiting.

2-2.5/hrs in class, and 45 minutes/day of personal practice

Emotional regulation, self-awareness, focus, Deep Listening, communication, empathy, ability to regulate anxiety and pain.

I am always available via Zoom after classes as well as between them. Also by phone.
