Introduction to Critical Literacy: Read the Word & the World<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0from Re-Imagine Education (RiEd) is a downloadable\u00a0curriculum set that provides the foundational knowledge necessary for developing critical literacy in students. It begins with a unit analyzing worldviews and developing lenses through which to understand the world. It continues with an examination of race, gender, class, and culminates with an intersectionality unit.<\/p>\n

Each unit in Introduction to Critical Literacy: Read the Word & the World <\/em>contains 15 lessons which include: close reads, a project, a unit exam, and reflection questions that can be done with others in a circle or individually.<\/p>\n

While there are countless “diversity curricula” out there, U.S. P-12 education is in desperate need for more social justice curricula. The work of Re-Imagine Education is a response to this need. The analysis is deeply in line with Hackman Consulting Group’s focus on social justice being about looking at systems and history as it pertains to both how targeted groups experience oppression and how dominant groups are benefited by them. Re-Imagine Education takes a deep and critical approach to social justice content while still being accessible and grade specific.<\/p>\n
