The Hands-On Science Series offers a dynamic, multimodal approach to science education, seamlessly integrating text, labs and activities, and curated videos embedded directly in course materials to engage learners in grades 3-8. These courses emphasize conceptual understanding through inquiry-based learning.
Microbiology
This 12-chapter course immerses students in the microscopic world, covering topics such as genetics, immunology, and ecology. It includes 48 animated videos that complement the text, enhancing comprehension of complex concepts. Hands-on modeling and integrated questions reinforce learning, while interdisciplinary connections to math, writing, and art encourage creative expression within scientific exploration.
The Science of Climate Change
Focusing on the science behind global warming and climate change, this course combines textual explanations with 18 hands-on activities to elucidate the mechanisms and impacts of climate change. It aims to foster critical thinking and empower students to understand and address environmental challenges.
Marine Science
Marine Science takes students on an ecosystem-based journey through the ocean. Structured around conceptual units—from ocean chemistry and energy transfer to coral reefs and deep-sea life—the course emphasizes how organisms adapt to their environments. Students conduct experiments, analyze data, explore case studies, and watch integrated videos that bring ocean science to life. The final unit addresses human impacts on the ocean and global conservation efforts, helping students connect scientific learning to environmental stewardship.
The series stands out for its commitment to providing accessible, engaging, and comprehensive science education that connects learners to real-world scientific concepts and practices.

Microbiology is awesome. Blair Lee covers all the topics, the illustrations are terrific, and the activities and worksheets are fun and engaging. Blair really knows the material and presents it well. I think it’s a terrific resource and really see the effort and time put into it! Any kid working through this book is going to have a solid basic understanding of microbiology. Really, I wish more parents would use this course! ~ Andrew Hessel, Chairman of the Board and Co-Executive Director Genome Project-Write.
The Science of Climate Change: A Hands-On Course uses text and eighteen hands-on activities to explain and teach the science of global warming and climate change, how humans are responsible, and what can be done to slow or stop the rate of global warming and climate change.
