Examine “The Power We Hold”
Hearth & Story’s Level 7–8 thematic core invites seventh and eighth grade students to explore the many forms of power that shape our world—from personal abilities to social influence and the power of storytelling itself. Through this series, students will consider the complex dynamics of power: how it is gained, challenged, and wielded for both good and ill.
Each story in this series follows characters navigating power in unique ways—whether by discovering unexpected abilities and using them to protect others, grappling with the tension between leadership and oppression, or recognizing the profound influence of language and storytelling. The thematic core encourages students to examine how power can be used to unite or divide, to inspire or control, and how it evolves in different contexts over time.
“The Power We Hold” challenges students to reflect on the forces that shape their own lives and communities, encouraging them to consider how they can harness their unique strengths, voices, and influence to bring about meaningful change.
Hearth & Story Writing, Level 7–8
This course builds on the foundation laid in previous Hearth & Story writing courses, offering students a deeper dive into crafting powerful, structured essays and research papers. It is designed to sharpen critical thinking, refine composition skills, and introduce new strategies that will prepare students for high school and beyond.
Hearth & Story Poetry, Level 7–8
This course features a mini-anthology of 28 carefully selected poems, each chosen to challenge and inspire students while remaining as accessible and engaging as possible. As they read, write, and analyze, students will sharpen their understanding of poetry while exploring figurative language and poetic structure in greater depth. In addition to guided lessons, this course includes a few poetry writing activities, encouraging students to experiment with their own poetic voice.
Note: This course is designed to be used with the same Hearth & Story Literary Terms Flashcard set included in the fifth and sixth grade poetry course. The printable flashcards are included in this bundle for newcomers. If you already have a set from fifth or sixth grade, you will not need to print them again.
On the Wilde Side
Our Level 7–8 short story series features three beloved tales by Oscar Wilde—"The Model Millionaire,” “The Devoted Friend,” and “The Remarkable Rocket.” These units include the full text of each story, along with clever questions, creative writing prompts, and fun activities that bring Wilde’s humor and insights to life. Students are encouraged to make connections, unravel Wilde’s sharp wit, and reflect on the timeless lessons woven into his stories. Crafted to inspire curiosity and critical thinking, this unit turns classic literature into a delightful homeschool experience. Step over to the Wilde side and discover why his stories still captivate readers today.
Feed Your Intellect with Brain Food, Level 7–8
