One Family, Many Stories is a journey through deep history, the long human past before written records, grounded in real science and archaeology and fully secular. A single Time Traveler carries your learner across thirty-four stops and six continents, from the walking ancestors of three million years ago to the eel farmers of Australia 6,500 years ago, meeting every way of living as a wise answer to one question: How do we make a home in this place? The course comes in three parts: the text, a hands-on student workbook, and an audiobook.

Read by Dr. Sherri Mehta.

One Family, Many Stories

A Global Journey Through Human History ~ Deep History

The Audiobook is the complete recording of One Family, Many Stories, the Text for The Historian's Toolkit, Year 1. It includes all thirty-four lessons. The chronological journey covers deep history from 3.2 million years ago to 6,500 years ago, with opening and closing lessons set in the present. The complete Audiobook is read by Dr. Sherri Mehta.

The Text speaks directly to your learner and places them inside each historical setting, which makes it well suited to audio. Your learner is the Time Traveler. Lesson 1 begins by asking them to close their eyes and listen to the sounds around them. Beginning with Lesson 3, each journey starts with the Time Travel Passport and a brief invitation to close their eyes. When they open them, they have arrived in another time and place: an East African grassland, a South African shore, a lakeshore in Southwest Asia, or a changing coastline in British Columbia.

The narration follows your learner as they meet families and communities and hear how historians and scientists reconstruct the past. The recording includes the complete Text of every lesson, including the historical evidence, explanations of how interpretations are formed, questions that remain unresolved, and prompts asking your learner to notice, compare, and think.

Lessons 3 through 33 also include the complete "Meanwhile, across the world" sections. These place each lesson within a wider global chronology by showing what people were doing in other parts of the world at the same time.

Families can listen together at home or in the car, follow along in the printed Text, or replay a lesson before completing the corresponding workbook pages. Because it contains the complete Text, learners who understand more readily through listening and those who are not yet reading independently receive the same historical content.

For the complete course, pair the Audiobook with the Student Workbook, Time Travel Passport, and Teacher's Guide. It may also be used on its own by a learner who wants to hear the historical narrative without completing the hands-on activities, Think Like a Historian instruction, vocabulary work, and Writing About History strand found in the Student Workbook.
