Description

The Science Behind the Stories, vol. 1, for Origins: Tales of Human Evolution is a teacher’s companion to the anthology ˜Origins: Tales of Human Evolution,’ from Hadley-Rille Books. The anthology contains seven stories from different periods of human evolution, ranging from the Australopithecines of Gerri Leen’s Patterns of Fall to the extinction of humanity’s galactic empire in Mike Resnick’s Hugo Award-winning novella Seven Views of Olduvai Gorge. Science fiction authors are writing for entertainment’s sake, and although these stories contain much accurate information, they also contain anachronisms and other scientific in-jokes, which are fun for students if they have help sorting them out.

Our teacher’s companion contains, for each story:

plot summaries
character and vocabulary lists
comprehension quizzes
discussion questions
further readings
and, importantly in this day and age, *search terms.* Science in this area is advancing so rapidly that new results are always available, if only teachers and students knew what keywords to use in their searches.
