What Could Decolonized History Look Like?

We talk a lot about decolonizing history in our homeschools because most of us grew up on history written by colonizers, so dismantling these narratives is important. But what if instead of decolonizing our curriculum, we looked for ways to create a history plan for our homeschool that bypasses colonialist narratives entirely? What would a secular history that doesn’t need to be decolonized look like? Obviously the answer to these questions is a work in progress, but let’s talk about some of the strategies we can use in our homeschool history studies to build a historical framework that is inclusive, diverse, and representative of our global humanity’s history.
